Santo Domingo: Hodelpa Caribe Colonial Reviews: "Another lovely stay at the Caribe Colonial"

I just returned from an 11 day stay at the Hodelpa Caribe Colonial. Situated on one of the nicest and safest areas of the Colonial Zone in Santo Domingo. There are plenty of Police protection (both National Police and Tourist Police around) due to the street be loaded with the Embassy from Trindad and Tobago, Mexico and many other Latin Countries. Handy ATM's very near the hotel so that you do not need to walk around with lots of cash and can make daily withdrawals to take just what you need for the day.
We ate dinner in the restaurant several times and the meals and service were great. The staffs at the hotel were wonderful and even helped me make reservations to a nice restaurant to propose marriage to my lover of 25 years. They were all very accepting of the gay lifestyle and the manager of the hotel even came out to congratulate us the day after he accepted my proposal of marriage (we live in Boston where same-sex marriages are legal in the USA). This was our third stay at the Caribe Colonial and we wouldn’t want to stay anywhere else in Santo Domingo. The rooms are very nice and well decorated. The 4th floor has a few suites with whirlpool and is very luxurious. The roof of the hotel has a place where you can sun-bathe and view the Colonial Zone.
The lobby bar is wonderful. One change since my last stay was that a full breakfast with eggs, bacon, assorted breads, cereal, fruit, coffee and juices are all included in the price of the hotel. The drinks the bartenders make are extremely well made and they are very attentive to the guests in the hotel. We wanted to steal the bartender (Anny) away from the hotel and bring her to the USA to live with us. She has become like a sister to us after the three times we have stayed there. She is just a gem!
If you want to stay somewhere real nice and feel like your in South Beach in Miami, FL this is the place to stay. The art-deco design and cleanliness of this hotel is hard to find in Santo Domingo for the prices that they offer. |

Santo Domingo: Hodelpa Caribe Colonial Reviews: "Great Location"

The Hodelpa Caribe Colonial is a nice little hotel in the middle of all the history of Santo Domingo's Colonial Zone. It is like going back in time to the 1500's when you are literally within walking distance of the first cathedral in the new world, shopping (Calle El Conde), cobblestone streets of Calle las Damas, Alcazar de Colón the home of Christopher Columbus’s son, restaurants, cafes, museums, etc. The Caribe Colonial has a very friendly staff and I was welcomed with a glass of champagne each time I visited. It has clean rooms, good service, room safe, cable TV, mini bar, telephone. Anytime I had a little problem they fixed it right away. It is small but for me I like it more than the big hotels on the Malecon. I feel I get more for my money here and I have stayed here twice and plan on staying here again. There is a good nightlife in the colonial zone also with many discos and nightclubs and I always feel safe there because the streets are full of people. So if you would like to stay in a nice little hotel in the middle of Santo Domingo's historic colonial zone then I recommend the Hodelpa Caribe Colonial. |
